10 DIY beauty treatments with baking soda
Chances are you use your baking soda only to make cookies or wash your dishes. But it can also be used for many household, medical and beauty purposes. Sodium bicarbonate is an antifungal, an antiseptic, gently exfoliates even the toughest calluses, and tackles a lot of nasty smells. Here are some effective and easy uses for baking soda you can incorporate into your beauty routine.
1. As an all-over scrub
If you want to get a nourishing, refreshing, gentle body exfoliator for daily use, just mix baking soda and oatmeal: 3 parts baking soda, 1 part water, and 1 part ground oatmeal. Rub the paste in a gentle circular motion to exfoliate skin and remove dead skin cells. Rinse clean with warm water.
2. To remove product buildup
Baking soda can help to get rid of extra product buildup in your hair. It helps remove the residue that styling products leave behind, so your hair is cleaner and more manageable. Just sprinkle about a quarter-size of it into your palm along with your favorite shampoo. Then wash as usual and rinse thoroughly.
3. As a prelude to a manicure
To do so, dip a small nail brush into baking soda and gently scrub under nails and around cuticles until they’re clean. Then, make a paste of 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water, and rub in a gentle circular motion over hands and fingers to exfoliate and smooth them. Rinse clean with warm water and apply polish as usual.
4. To soften tough foot calluses
First, you need to soften the calluses. For this, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and a few drops of lavender oil to a basin of warm water. After a nice long soak (about 20 minutes), scrub the calluses away with this homemade scrub: 3 parts baking soda, 1 part water, and 1 part brown sugar. Apply a rich moisturizer and wrap foot in a warm towel. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

Just add ½ cup of baking soda to your bath – it will neutralize acids on the skin and help wash away oil and perspiration while you soak. Baking soda combined with water softens and soothes the skin, and also calms irritants that the body brings to its surface as a result of a bite, skin irritation or mild sunburn.
6. As a deodorant
Mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda with about 10 drops of your favorite essential oil and apply to underarms using a brush. Fill an empty mineral makeup container with this homemade deodorant, so you could reapply throughout the day, and use a stubby Kabuki brush for an application.
7. As an acne spot-treatment
Make yourself a paste from baking soda and water and apply it to the pimple like a spot treatment. But you better not apply this remedy on deep cysts.
8. To whiten your teeth
Sprinkle baking soda into your palm, dip a damp toothbrush into it, and brush your teeth. Then rinse and follow with your toothpaste. For an antifungal mouthwash, mix 1 teaspoon baking soda in ¼ glass of water and swish the solution through your teeth.

It’s not exactly a beauty solution, but it is very effective. Baking soda can help quickly relieve many tummy issues, because its slight neutralizes the acid causing the number of stomach problems, such as heartburn, acid stomach, gas, and others. Just mix a teaspoon into a glass of warm water and drink it down.
